Terms
frequently used and their meanings
Float
Glass
everyday glass that is used in most windows and doors it has iron
in
it which is seen when the glass is turned on its side.
Starfire/Low
Iron Glass
This glass does not contain much iron so when colour backed it does
not throw a green colour that can change the white into a mint green
colour etc. The only glass to use when you want a true light coloured
white, cream or yellow splashback.
Toughened
Glass
Any glass which is put through a furnace to further strengthen it,
making
it 5 times the strength of normal glass. When it shatters it breaks
into
small pieces just like the old windscreens.
Glazing
Border
A flat straight edge border that surrounds slumped or textured glass
so that it can be glazed into a door or window frame.
At Warm Glass Designs we have ability to produce many products on
site.
Our glass kilns' maximum capacity is 2.4m x 1.4m. Any glass that
needs
to be toughened we personally drop off to a toughening plant in
Brisbane that
toughens slumped glass. The
colour backing is done by a professional glass
two pac painter on the coast locally.
